JEN Hong Kong by Shangri-La – the lifestyle hotel located in the vibrant Western District of Hong Kong Island – has become known as a hub for supporting local talent. The walls of the hotel are peppered with art pieces created by emerging local artists, each of which is available to purchase with all proceeds going to the artists or galleries themselves.
On showcase at JEN Hong Kong currently? An exhibition entitled Exploring Old Hong Kong by local gallery Blue Lotus Gallery.
Here, three members of the JEN staff share which artworks from the collection spark the most joy within themselves.
1. Austin Liu, JEN Hong Kong Life Guard
‘Private‘ by Ho Fan, which is installed in our Club Lounge, is the piece that brings me the most joy. While the image is not colourful or vibrant, it is beautiful in its simplicity of depicting a quiet moment between two people. With his notoriety as a famous local photographer, we have a lot of interest in this piece from our guests, too.

2. Guchi Poon, Duty Manager
My favourite piece from the Blue Lotus Gallery is the energetic image from Keith MacGregor titled ‘Johnston Road’ – it highlights how unique the streets of Hong Kong are and what an amazing city we live in. It’s fun, vibrant and eclectic, just like the residents!

3. Tweety Yeung, Senior Front Office Manager
Hong Kong is so unique in its amazing array of different buildings and architecture – both new and old. This image from Stefan Irvine – ‘To Kwa Wan Road, Kowloon‘ – is reminiscent of old Hong Kong, which brings back happy memories with people sharing stories of their past.
