Ever had that nightmare scenario where you’re about to go out for an evening with friends or that special someone in your life and you realise you don’t have a thing to wear?

It doesn’t matter that your wardrobe is stuffed to the gills with an array of multi coloured co-ordinates and at least four variations of the little black dress, somehow just none of them will do.

For Mila Povoroznuk, the dilemma was simple – go vintage.

With the advent of the pre-loved shop finding something with a hint of 60s psychedelic or a rail of 80s power suits with padded shoulders that looked like you’d forgotten to take the hanger out, was never going to be a problem.

But that was just a little bit too 20th Century for Mila, who lives in Vinnitsa in the Ukraine.

So two years ago she ditched her wardrobe of latest catwalk fashions and started dressing head-to-toe in dresses, corsets, blouses, shoes and elegant hats from the Victorian and Edwardian era.

Mila’s fascination with 18th and 19th Century clothing started when she began getting involved with historical re-enactments but the draw of wearing the beautiful outfits every day became too much.

She confesses: ‘The first pieces appeared in my everyday wardrobe eight years ago but they were only for modelling clothes for historical festivals, thematic re-enactment meetings and balls.

‘Then I just completely switched.  I just love the styles, they are so beautiful’.

Now a dedicated follower of vintage fashion, Mila trawls auctions and second-hand shops to find items that she can turn into elaborate outfits.

‘I do get some odd looks when I’m out and about,’ she admits, but her unique sense of bygone style has brought her fans from around the world and she’s become known as your_sunny_flowers to her 80,000 Instagram and her quirky look has had millions of views on Tik Tok.

Initially her new… or rather, old, wardrobe started with a blue autumn coat.  Now she uses magazines and the internet for inspiration when she feels in need of something new and glamorous to wear.

But it is the Edwardian era from the early 1900s that remains her favourite.

“The suffragette movements began during that period and I think that all women should be grateful for this time in history because it gave us the rights and opportunities we have today’.

As to how long it takes her to get ready in the morning……. Put it this way, when she says it will only take her ten minutes, I think we know those corsets are no respecters of time.
