William Shakespeare in his comedy As You Like It, wrote ‘ All the world is a stage’ but he could never have imagined that one day this would include a mobile app that promises audiences an immersive story-telling experience.
Alexander is a digital platform bringing together written, audio and film formats to present original non-fiction stories, and what better way to do it than with an all-star cast including The Crown’s Emma Corrin who is currently making headlines worldwide for her portrayal of the late Princess Diana on Netflix.
‘It’s thrilling to plunge into someone else’s world and be taken somewhere unexpected,’ says Hollywood actress Helena Bonham Carter – and that’s exactly what Australian-born film producer Cameron Lamb set out to achieve when creating Alexander.
The app harnesses the talents of A list actors, award-winning authors and celebrated filmmakers and gives unique access to fascinating places, culture and people.
‘Alexander is for a global audience starved of those intimate, transporting stories that give real access to international and unexplored subjects and places,’ explains Cameron.
Each original feature on the app is a commissioned story, an audio performance and a super short film. The film introduces the setting, teases the subject and sets the mood. Audiences can then read, listen or move via Toggle between the written word and audio performance.
‘I wanted to bring together the three mediums to deliver an immersive world and commissioning brilliant writers and actors will capture audiences from the moment they drop into the app. It’s a unique experience. You get the chance to dwell in the deep heart of a story’, says Cameron.
Although born in Sydney, Cameron went to school in Adelaide before moving to Hollywood to pursue a career in film.
Alexander’s writers include Colum McCann, Xiaolu Guo, Booker Prize nominated Chigozie Obioma, theoretical physicist Carlo Rovelli and Valeria Luiselli.
There are audio performances from Academy Award nominees Helena Bonham Carter and Richard E Grant, Golden Globe winner Bill Nighy, David Tennant and Dan Stevens, while Emma Corrin stars in one of the super-short films.
Every two weeks Alexander will release an original English-language feature in its subscription application. For more information visit www.alxr.com or download the app https://apps.apple.com/us/app/alexander/id1529631224
