On this special festive day, we want to give you pause as you go about your celebrations blessed with plenty. As we have provided you with positive, uplifting stories throughout this year, we thought to bring you one more, an important one, on Christmas Day.

There are more orphans in Uganda than anywhere else in the world — over 2.4 million children — due to the AIDS epidemic, extreme poverty, and decades of civil conflict. But there is one organisation that is on the ground in Uganda to help as many of these young people as they can.

The Masaka Kids Africana charity gives children safe shelter, food, clothing, education and medical care. Through them, children gain an education and the life skills they need for future success. Their lives are completely transformed. And the wonderful smiles you can see in the video below is a testament to the work they do in Uganda.

Masaka Kids Africana-sponsored children have gone through some of the worst experiences a child could face — but through dance and song and sharing their love of Uganda, these children connect to each other and the world. They see their own potential — they have hope for their future.

The Masaka Kids Africana is composed of African children, from the age of two and up. Many have lost one or both parents through the devastation of war, famine and disease. They represent all the children of a continent and they demonstrate the potential of African children to become strong leaders for a better future in their land.

The children melt the hearts of audiences with their charming smiles and delightful African tunes, accompanied by vibrant dance moves. Nearly every performance is concluded with a thunderous standing ovation.

A marvellous by-product of the concert is the inspiration the music brings to virtually every listener. In spite of the tragedy that has marred their young lives, the children are radiant with hope, musically gifted and wonderfully entertaining.

Their popularity has spread across the world, and the story of hope, survival, and love has been travelling with every video they make. In the video below, the children create “Dancing Joy Of Togetherness” which has over 63 million views on their YouTube channel.

You may have heard of them last year when none other than Drake — that’s right, Drizzy himself — shared the Masaka Kids video to his Instagram story after asking founder Suuna Hassan if he could, according to TMZ. Maybe you thought you’d had your fill of the Toosie Slide dance challenge. After all, the Drake song debuted at number one and the accompanying dance challenge went viral on Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok.

Then came the final interpretation of the Toosie Slide — by the Masaka Kids, and about 10 seconds into the video anyone could have told you that the Masaka Kids had won the Toosie Slide dance challenge — and that’s when Drake himself reposted the video to his Instagram Story. And even if you have no idea what the Toosie Slide is or normally have no interest in dance challenges, I challenge you (!) to watch the video and not feel joy.

They rely on the generosity of their extended family — people like you who are reading this right now— so that they can educate, feed, clothe and support all of the children in their care. Every dollar they save from their performance is also a dollar earned for the continued care of the kids. Their music and dance troupe children will soon begin training again during their school term breaks and over select weekends. Show your support of music and advocacy – it’s so easy to do. And what a great Christmas gift this would make.

Your support to these kids would be really appreciated. That cover Education, Health Support, Food, and other school needs.
