Friday, 13 November was World Kindness Day – the movement that aims to highlight the power of positivity and kindness when bound together in society.
Kindness is “the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate,” and it is a key aspect of the human condition. It is what unites us in the division of race, religion, politics, and gender.
The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation believes that kindness should be the norm and not just something that shows in glimpses. So, while World Kindness Day, has come and gone, we, at Happy Ali believe that warmth, gentleness, goodness aren’t just for one particular day but forever. So, to kickstart your week, here are seven ways to start making kindness the norm in your daily life:
#1 Send an uplifting text to a friend or family member
#2 Let that guy merge into traffic with a wave and smile
#3 Include intentional moments of kindness, laughter, and delight in your daily routine
#4 Go slightly outside our comfort zone at least once a day to make someone smile
#5 Share a compliment with a co-worker or friend
#6 Reach out to a family member you haven’t spoken to in a while
#7 Treat someone to a cup of coffee (a friend, stranger, or even yourself)
Make kindness the norm.
Any act of kindness can make someone’s day better. Making kindness the norm instead of the exception can completely change not only your mood going into the day but also of those around you. We never know what people are going through and sometimes it is those who smile the most that are struggling the most, so always be kind.
About World Kindness Day
World Kindness Day was first founded in 1997 when a collection of humanitarian groups came together to make a “Declaration of Kindness”. Starting as a Tokyo-based convention back in 1997, the World Kindness Movement organisation became an officially-recognised NGO under Swiss law in 2019.
The day is full of kindness activities such as dance mobs, concerts, the distribution of kindness cards, and random acts of kindness like the ones above.
